A Little On The Theory Of Lighting

I have been asked to comment a little on the theory of interior lighting. General Lighting illuminates the whole room. This is typically overhead or track lighting. I highly recommend a rheostat on this type of lighting to keep the desired effect as the light of day since Natural Lighting, changes through out the day. Tiffany chandeliers, Tiffany ceiling fan lights, and Tiffany flushmount lighting is best for these situations.

Next is Task Lighting. This is lighting that provides adequate light to preform a specific job such as reading, cooking, application of make up, etc. This lighting should be glare free and positioned so things are easy to see without eye strain. Tiffany pendant lighting, Tiffany island lighting, Tiffany vanity lights, Tiffany table lamps, and Tiffany floor lamps work best for these situations.

Last is Accent Lighting. this is focused light that is used to illuminate something of interest. A piece of art, a sculpture, or an architectural element of a room. Accent lighting is usually about three time the brightness of general lighting. Tiffany accent lights and Tiffany mini pendant lights work best here.

With all your lighting efforts it is important to do a little planning before you go out and buy your fixtures. Have an idea of the over all effect you are looking to create. Most important, do not be afraid to mix the different types of lighting in your over all theme. Tiffany style lighting can be of great help in achieving your desired lighting goals.

A review of terminology relating to Tiffany style lighting. Inverted Pendant: A chain hung ceiling fixture with the open end of the shade facing toward the ceiling. This is used for indirect and defused lighting. Like many Tiffany style lighting fixtures, this works best when controlled by a dimmer switch. This type lighting may be viewed as Tiffany pendant lighting, Tiffany flushmount fixtures, Tiffany ceiling fan lights, and Tiffany hanging pendant lighting.

Iridescent Glass: This is glass with a colorful shimmering effect created when a layer of metallic oxide is bonded to hot glass. This may be seen in all types of Tiffany style lighting. The best examples are viewed in Tiffany stained glass windows, Tiffany chandeliers, Tiffany table lamps, and Tiffany accent lamps.

Island Pendant: This is a ceiling fixture, usually multi shaded, horizontally hung and generally best suited for a kitchen island or a billiard table. Also known as Tiffany oblong pendants, Tiffany hanging lamps, Tiffany style pendant lamps, and Tiffany billiard lamps. There is a specialty Tiffany Coke Cola oblong pendant light available.

Tiffany hanging pendant lights are an often over looked solution to lighting problems. Counter tops, work areas or gaming tables are often best light by one of the many varieties of Tiffany style hanging lamps.

Tiffany style pendant lights come in a variety of designs and themes. The basic Tiffany pendant light is a one light drop from the ceiling. The two, three or four light Tiffany hanging pendant light will provide the required illumination for any size work area. As with all ceiling fixtures, a dimmer control provides the best results for changing lighting needs.

Tiffany two light islands and Tiffany three light islands are fixtures hung from the ceiling with a chain or pole. They are used to light work areas, counter tops and tables. Tiffany island lighting generally provides 40 to 60 percent of the light required to light a standard room and work best when controlled with a dimmer switch.

Tiffany light islands work best when companioned with complementary Tiffany style lighting. Tiffany floor lamps, Tiffany table lamps and Tiffany accent lamps are the easiest to work with when trying to achieve the desired effect.
